The concept is if you want to shift to a reduced gear in a hands-on transmission vehicle, rev-matching allows for a smooth shift. For an offered car speed, the higher the gear you’re in, the lower your engine’s speed. To make up for this, the change is as follows: you push in the clutch, blip the throttle (elevating the engine rate to match the following gear), shift from 4th to 3rd as your engine rate climbs, and then let out the clutch.
