The 1998-2011 Lincoln Community Car was the last of its kind: a body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive American luxury car that focused on traveler convenience over everything else. While the auto globe moved toward unibody SUVs and “sport-tuned” suspensions, the third-generation Community Cars and truck held the line on the Panther platform, becoming the gold standard for livery fleets, limos, and those that valued a “bank-vault” trip top quality.
In this docudrama, we look at the engineering that made the Town Car a 300,000-mile legend, the 2003 refresh that perfected the formula, and the cool monetary calculations at Ford that ultimately finished the era of the “for life automobile” in 2011.
