The 22-year-old viral singer-songwriter’s new record, Do That Again, was released on Friday (June 5), via Columbia Records, where he signed after going viral on TikTok three years ago with songs like “Art House” and “Roommates.”
Per the official release:
“While recording Do That Again, Malcolm Todd spent the summer newly single and bursting with life. Fresh off tour with friends in town and nothing to tie him down, the LA-based musician zipped through the dog days, staying out late, having the kind of time you spend the rest of the year chasing. But that spontaneous thrill ran parallel to a major focus. He was hard at work too, pouring all of it straight into the new record, writing through his growth as both a person and an artist. Over six months at Electric Lady Studios in New York and Chaplin Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Malcolm logged long days and late nights with a tight-knit crew of collaborators until everything was exactly right.”
He also just performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon for the first time alongside the album’s release this week, singing Billboard Hot 100 hits “I Saw Your Face” and “Earrings.”
“I definitely don’t feel like I have to grab onto it. I’m not really chasing hits. They’re always nice, and to be rewarded for a song you care about is really cool. As this has blown up, I’ve just been like, ‘OK, cool, people like that song.’ All I’m thinking really about is putting out new music,” he said of the recent surge in popularity of “Earrings” to the LA Times.
One of the new songs especially getting a ton of attention online is “Obsessica,” as fans eagerly read the lyrics on Genius, where it’s currently floating in the Top 10 most searched songs.
“Crazy I think I’m a little bit obsessed / ‘Cause every time you call I fall again / And I get just a little bit depressed / And I like it, I think I like it,” he sings.
