This really improved my fitness

This change in approach really improved my fitness ability several years ago.

Instead of keeping my numbers (sets & reps) the same, I kept my intensity the same – fairly high.

In order to maintain this intensity, I would do fewer sets and use more harder variations as I got stronger. This gives us a clear path to progress!

While most of us know to do this with weightlifting, this mindset seems less present with calisthenics. For whatever reason, we tend to think more in absolute numbers with bodyweight (5 sets of 20, regardless of how easy or hard it feels).

This helped me maintain the endurance I had while continually getting stronger and learn new movements. I didn’t notice a downside for me.

It’s notable that while I prefer medium-high intensity and lower sets, these things aren’t ALWAYS better. It depends on your goals and ability. For example, for skill training, we may never want to approach failure and instead do high sets and low fatigue.

Similarly, if you’re new to training, you may want to ease in for a few weeks as you gradually increase how much you push yourself during sets. This can help reduce some initial soreness. However, after a few weeks, most people are ready to go!

Just some thoughts. Have a wonderful day! #hybridcalisthenics #shorts #fitness
