Paris-based startup SquareMind has elevated $18 million to introduce Swan, the world’s initial robot made to record standardized, full-body dermoscopic skin imaging.
The funding round was led by Sonder Capital, established by Fred Moll, the “father of medical robotics” who built Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci system in the 1990s.
Swan uses a robot arm to scan an individual’s entire skin surface in minutes, coupled with AI software application that tracks new or altering moles throughout visits.
The innovation deals with a critical traffic jam in dermatology, where months-long waiting lists hit the reality that 80 percent of cancer malignancies are new sores.
Industrial launch in the United States and Europe is anticipated later on this year.
